Frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about virtual visits, privacy and prescriptions.

How do I schedule a virtual consultation?

Sign in, choose "Request a visit" and tell us what's going on. It takes about two minutes. If you get stuck, our support team will help you get set up.

What equipment do I need for a virtual visit?

A phone, tablet or computer with a camera and microphone, plus a decent internet connection. For a phone visit, just your phone. A quiet, private spot helps.

Is my information secure?

Yes. Visits run on an encrypted platform, and your health information is only shared with the people involved in your care.

Can I get a prescription through a virtual visit?

Yes, when it's the right treatment for you. Your provider sends it to the pharmacy you choose. A few medicines, like controlled substances, can't be prescribed online.

Who can use CheckMD?

Anyone with a CheckMD membership. That includes individuals and families, and the employees or members of organizations that offer CheckMD as a benefit.

How much does it cost?

Memberships are paid once a year, so you know your costs up front. You'll find the current plans on the pricing page.

Can CheckMD help in an emergency?

No. If you have chest pain, trouble breathing, heavy bleeding or any other emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room right away.

What is telehealth?

Telehealth means seeing a healthcare provider over video or phone instead of in an office. You talk, they ask questions and, when it is right for you, they can diagnose, treat and prescribe, just like in person.

What can be treated in a virtual visit?

Many everyday conditions: colds and flu, sinus and ear problems, sore throats, allergies, rashes, urinary tract infections, minor injuries, stress, anxiety and sleep problems. See what we treat.

Is a virtual visit as good as going in?

For many common problems, yes. Your provider can ask the same questions and often see what they need on video. If you need a physical exam or a test, they will tell you.

Can my family use my membership?

Choose a family plan to cover your household. See the plans on the pricing page.
