Skin care online
Rashes, acne, itchy patches and spots you are not sure about – show a licensed provider by video or photo and get a plan, usually the same day.
Who you will see
Your visit is with a licensed physician, nurse practitioner or physician assistant who treats common skin problems every day. They are not board-certified dermatologists – and they will tell you honestly when a dermatologist or an in-person exam is the better next step.

Getting a good photo
- Use daylight from a window and turn off the flash
- Take one close-up and one from further away so the provider can see where it is
- Add a photo from a few days ago if it has changed
You can share photos in a message-based visit or show the area on camera in a video visit.
When skin needs an in-person visit
- A mole or spot that is changing in size, shape or colour, bleeds or won't heal
- A rash with a high fever, blistering over large areas, or skin that is peeling off
- Swelling of the lips, tongue or throat, or trouble breathing – call 911
- A painful, hot, spreading red area that could be an infection
A virtual visit is not an emergency service. For chest pain, trouble breathing, severe bleeding, signs of a stroke or a serious injury, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. If you are thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) at any time.
Questions about skin care online
Is this the same as seeing a dermatologist?
No. You see a licensed primary care provider who treats common skin problems. If you need a specialist, they will tell you and help with the referral.
Can I get a prescription cream online?
Yes, when it is right for you. Your provider sends it to the pharmacy you choose.
Can you check a mole online?
A provider can look at a photo and tell you whether it needs an in-person check, but a mole that worries you should always be examined in person.
