Privacy policy

What information CheckMD collects, why, who sees it and the choices you have – in plain English.

Who we are

CheckMD provides virtual primary care memberships and online visits with licensed providers. This policy covers checkmd.com, our sign-up pages and the CheckMD dashboard. Last updated: October 18, 2026.

Information we collect

  • Account details: your name, email, phone number, date of birth, address and the people on your plan
  • Health information you share for your care: symptoms, history, medicines, photos and visit notes
  • Membership and payment details. Card payments are handled by our payment processor; we don't store full card numbers
  • Messages you send us, for example through the contact form
  • Technical information: device and browser type, IP address and the pages you use, kept in server logs for security

How we use it

  • To provide your visits, prescriptions, lab orders and follow-up care
  • To run your membership, answer questions and send messages about your account and care
  • To keep the service secure, prevent fraud and meet legal duties
  • To improve the service, using information that doesn't identify you where we can

Your health information

Health information used for your care is protected health information under HIPAA. How we may use and share it, and your rights, are described in our Notice of privacy practices.

Who we share it with

  • The licensed providers caring for you
  • The pharmacy and lab you choose, when your provider sends a prescription or a test order
  • Companies that help us run CheckMD (hosting, email, payments), under contract and only for that work
  • Your employer or group only if they sponsor your plan, and then only enrollment information – never your health information without your permission
  • Authorities when the law requires it

We do not sell your personal information, and we don't use it for advertising.

Cookies

We use only the cookies needed to sign you in, keep you signed in safely and remember a form you are filling in. We don't use advertising cookies.

How we protect it

Information is sent over encrypted connections, sensitive details are encrypted when stored, and access is limited to the people who need it for your care or to run the service. No system is perfectly secure; if something goes wrong, we will tell you as the law requires.

How long we keep it

We keep medical records for as long as the law requires, and other information only for as long as we need it for the reasons above.

Your choices and rights

  • See and get a copy of your information
  • Ask us to correct something that is wrong
  • Ask us to delete information we don't have to keep by law
  • Unsubscribe from news emails at any time with the link in each email

Some U.S. states give you extra rights; we honour them. To make a request, email us. We may need to confirm who you are first.

Children

Accounts are for adults. A parent or guardian can add children to a family plan and manages their information.

Changes and contact

If we change this policy, we will update the date above and tell members about important changes. Questions? Email [email protected] or write to CheckMD, Denver, Colorado.
